Want to Contribute to the Vero Blog? Here’s What You Need to Know

The Vero blog has grown tremendously over the past year. As the page views have increased, so have the offers for guest posts (some are fantastic), but we turn down most pitches.

We want the Vero blog to be an incredible resource for email marketers, and we want to hear from the marketing community. If you are chasing a backlink or pushing a product, you might as well stop reading now.

We won’t even consider running your post if:

  • The pitch contains poor grammar
  • You are writing on behalf of someone else
  • You work for a PR firm

On the flip side, we would love to hear your pitch if:

  • You are passionate about email marketing
  • You have a great story to tell
  • You are an experienced blogger
  • You are an upstanding citizen of the Internet

Seem like a good fit? Keep reading.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for thoughtful, interesting posts that will stimulate discussion and add value to the marketing community. Every post should make our readers better email marketers. Here are some guidelines to make that happen:

  • Articles should range from 500 to 1,500 words. If we accept your pitch, we can discuss the appropriate length for your topic.
  • All posts should include specific examples and action items.
  • Original reporting is great but not necessary. If you quote another blog or person, please cite your sources.

A few other things we really like:

  • Screenshots
  • Numbers
  • Embedded media (tweets, YouTube videos, etc.)
  • Actions items
  • Checklists
  • Bullet points (Can you tell?)
  • Subheads
  • AP style
  • Google authorship

And here are a few things we really don’t like:

  • Spammy anchor text
  • Run-on sentences
  • Shameless plugs
  • Bad grammar
  • Cliches
  • Buzzwords

How to pitch us

We get a lot of email, and we read all of it. We ask that you make the process easy by keeping your pitches short and sweet. Tell us your idea, and provide a few key bullet points outlining the article. Include links to other articles you’ve written and to your social media profiles.

Here are a few articles to help you write killer pitches:

FAQs

Do you pay your writers? Yes, but not every post is paid.

I work for a marketing agency. Can I write a guest post? Sure … if it adheres to the guidelines above.

When will my post be published? We will work with each writer to plan a publish date. All posts require at least a two-week lead time.

Can I send you a Microsoft Word document? You are no longer allowed to contribute to our blog.

Just kidding … sort of. We really prefer Markdown files and do our own writing in Draft. This also helps us track changes and manage our workflow.

Will you link to my blog/website/Twitter/Google+/e-book? We are happy to include a link (or two) in your author bio. Links in the body copy will be scrutinized for value. If it smells like a cheap backlink, it won’t be included. As Matt Cutts says:
